Federal Battery Rebate Makes Solar Storage More Affordable in Spreyton

The Federal Battery Rebate is now live and is helping families in Spreyton, Devonport, Latrobe, Ulverstone and across Tasmania reduce the upfront cost of installing a solar battery.

The incentive is calculated per usable kilowatt hour and applied as an upfront discount, and it will decrease from 1 May 2026. Installing before that date allows you to secure the higher rebate rate.

What Is the Federal Battery Rebate?

Launched in July 2025, the Federal Battery Rebate under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program is a national initiative designed to reduce the upfront cost of installing home batteries. It is now available to households across Australia, including Spreyton, Devonport, Latrobe, Ulverstone, Sheffield, Burnie and Launceston.

The incentive is calculated per usable kWh and applied as an upfront discount. The current rate is roughly $311 per usable kWh and will decrease to around $252 per usable kWh from 1 May 2026, before stepping down further under a bi annual reduction model with tiered, lower payments for larger systems.

If you are planning a new solar and battery installation or upgrading an existing solar system, installing before May 2026 allows you to secure the higher incentive and reduce your costs by thousands.

Who Is Eligible for the Federal Battery Rebate in Tasmania?

If you live in Spreyton, Devonport, Latrobe, Ulverstone, Burnie, Sheffield or surrounding areas, there is a good chance you will qualify for the Federal Battery Rebate, particularly if you already have a grid-connected solar system or are planning to install one soon.

The rebate is elgible for property owners or residents with a compliant solar system that is grid-connected and meets Australian standards. The battery must also be installed by an approved installer such as DMS Energy. Most systems will also need to be Virtual Power Plant ready, although actually joining a VPP will remain optional.

Can Off-Grid Homes in Tasmania Access the Federal Battery Rebate?
